Walmart has started to go downhill in recent
weeks. It’s obvious that everyone would rather be spending money elsewhere,
especially when they can have a better shopping experience in the process. Walmart
doesn’t understand that their entire business model revolves around being
cheap. I supposed that people are beginning to understand that they get what
they pay for. Walmart is probably one of the cheapest shopping experiences on
the planet.
Walmart is also having a hard time fighting
negative publicity. Associates talk and word gets out about the realities of
working for Walmart. People don’t like how Walmart treats its employees. Sure,
they can raise wages, but they don’t need to cut the hours of their workers in
the process. Walmart needs to understand one chilling fact; associates
outnumber everyone at their corporate offices. All it takes is one unhappy
associate to tell the world the truth. The truth of the matter is that Walmart
will eat itself alive, just to show that they made more money than the previous
year. This means that everyone is expendable at Walmart.
Walmart has truly failed its associates and it
has failed its customers most of all. A big time executive has no right to tell
the entire company what they need and don’t need in their stores. The
customer’s needs come first. Focus groups are great. Ask customers, even
better, ask an associate what needs to be improved. Associates know first-hand
what the customer wants. Spreadsheets only give you numbers, they can’t make
you feel the disappointment of a customer. Walmart needs to get out of its
Walmart Tower and mingle with the good people of the world, and they need to
keep doing that. Not just once to appease the mob.
The problems lie with the leadership of the
Walmart company. I don’t mean the CEO; I mean the people who are in charge of
the CEO, the majority shareholders. The people at the very top. This is the
reason why Walmart is the way it is. This is the reason why the company is so
obsessed with only making more money than the previous year.
If these shareholders want to make money, they
need to realize what needs to be done to be able to accomplish the task. Until
then, Walmart is just going to keep going downhill.
Listen up Walmart!
